Marian Lupu: We will not travel visa-free in EU from January 1, 2013

Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said that the Moldovans will not travel visa-free in the European Union from January 1, 2013. According to him, this may happen in 2-3 years, but it depends on the speed and quality of the implemented reforms, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We have ambitious plans, but I insist on another facet of the process – the politicians should be honest with the people. We must not make them have exaggerated expectations because the responsibility is borne not only by the minister who makes related statements, but by all those of the ruling alliance. On January 1, 2013 Moldova will not enjoy a liberalized visa regime. This was and is clear,” stated the Speaker. As to Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca’s statement that he will resign if Moldova does not have a visa-free regime by the end of this year, Marian Lupu said that Leanca is a good minister who shouldn’t be lost. “We will see how to save him when we reach that moment,” he stressed. Earlier, Iurie Leanca assured that Moldova will have a liberalized visa regime by 2013.
