”I aim to establish a clam and efficient political climate. Today we can end this period of instability for the state institutions and the people of this country. I’m a balanced, prudent man without vanities. Politics have never been a source of livelihood for me. I’m honored that I was given this trust and hope that things in Moldova will return to normality,” the only candidate for the presidency Marian Lupu said in the speech delivered in Parliament before the presidential elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The ruling alliance’s candidate said the country is now between two options – the chaos will persist or the head of state will be elected and there will be stability and balance. “Moldova needs stability and unity in the negotiations with the EU and Russia and in all the foreign dialogues,” said the head of the Democratic Party.
He also said that his priorities include the European integration, attraction of investments, settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, combating of corruption and ensuring of social equity.
Delivering a speech, the head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the discussions included tense moments as well as moments of consensus. “We must act in the interests of the Moldovans. We must all take a responsibility test and use the chance offered by the people. It is important that we do not disappoint them,” said Valeriu Strelet.
The leader of the Liberal group Ion Hadirca said the AEI is now on a mined filed than can be demined only together. He said that Marian Lupu has all the qualities needed to maintain the balance in Parliament.
Dumitru Diacov, the leader of the Democratic faction, stated that the President should not carry a sword, but should create an atmosphere of cooperation between the authorities and society. “Marian Lupu tried by deeds to become this bridge, this instrument. I urge you to vote. Lupu will be everyone’s President,” said Dumitru Diacov.
Deputy Speaker, Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov reiterated that the Communist faction will not take part in the elections.
The leader of the group of Socialists Igor Dodon said both he and his two colleagues will take part in the voting, but will vote against the alliance’s candidate.
The elections started at 15.45 and will last for at most two hours.
