Moldova’s Acting President Marian Lupu left for Dushanbe to participate in the Summit of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) taking place there on September 2-3, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We have a rather interesting summit agenda. It includes economic, commercial and social matters. I think it will be a good opportunity for bilateral discussions with my counterparts from the CIS states. We can also agree the agenda of the bilateral relations. We arranged a number of meetings, but I want to see the final program as there are many reciprocal requests. They informed me the program will be definitive when I arrive in Dushanbe,” said Marian Lupu. He added he will return to Moldova on September 4. According to the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, among the most important documents of the summit are the Joint Statement of the CIS Heads of State that will be adopted on the occasion of 20 years of the foundation of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and an analytical report on the results achieved by the CIS during the last 20 years and the future tasks. The documents were drafted in accordance with the plan of actions dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the creation of the CIS, which was approved by the CIS Council of Heads of Government on May 21, 2010. The summit will also discuss the extension of cooperation in security in the CIS area, draft agreements on the commemoration of the heroism of the CIS peoples in the Second World War, and a draft program on cooperation in combating illegal migration for 2012-2014. The Commonwealth of Independent States is a regional organization consisting of former Soviet republics, counting Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. Georgia withdrew from the organization in 2009. The Baltic Countries refused to enter the CIS from the very beginning.
