The chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said that he supports the actions of the neighboring country Ukraine, which digs trenches on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. In a news conference, Marian Lupu said that Ukraine is trying to secure its borders by all means possible so as to protect itself from provocations, IPN reports.
Marian Lupu stated that the Ukrainian authorities have all the reasons to act so as, according to public information, persons from the Transnistrian region may become involved in the events in Ukraine. “As the Moldovan authorities are interested in a return to normality and stability and in preventing possible interference and provocations, the PDM supports this acts because they are in Moldova’s interests,” he said.
The Democratic leader underlined that the situation in Ukraine arouses concerns because its possible consequences will affect not only Moldova, but also the political stability and the whole security system in the region. ”It is a very dangerous hotbed and we are following closely the developments. Preparing possible steps or decisions is a top priority for Moldova,” stated Marian Lupu.
As to the ban imposed by Russia on the import of Moldovan products, Marian Lupu said such decisions are purely political as the Association Agreement does not pose a threat to Russia.
According to the Democratic leader, negotiations between Russia and Moldova will take place this or next week. A group of Moldovan experts will go to Moscow to clarify the situation.
