“One of the pressing issues which needs to be addressed by the prosecutors is the prevention and combating of corruption among their own ranks. It should be started with resolving this issue internally so that the prosecutors can serve as a model of propriety for society”, stated acting President Marian Lupu at a meeting on Friday held by the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to sum up the work done in 2010, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu stated that an essential factor in combating corruption is the prosecutors' moral integrity. “I'm mentioning this issue not because I want to be critical or find some flaws, but to emphasize the importance of the prosecutors in fighting this phenomenon. It is very important that you develop forms and ways to enhance the prosecutors' work”, said Marian Lupu. The acting President also stated that in recent years society lost some trust in the prosecutors. So, the prosecutors should endeavor in their work to regain the society's trust. “Today society needs justice and this is directly related to the PGO's work. There is a need for important reform, internal reform. The Republic of Moldova needs a professional prosecutorial body. I invite you to submit your ideas, proposals to improve this institution”, said Marian Lupu. For his part Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco stated that 2010 was a difficult year. “I am confident we will have all the support of the government, as today we are set to start a reform in the judicial system. I believe these proposals will be adopted and supported”.
