The Moldovan Parliament’s statement whereby the Russian Federation is requested to withdraw its army from the left side of the Nistru is not anti-Russia. It is a pro-Moldova statement that confirms the neutrality status of the country, ex-president of the Democratic Party of Moldova Marian Lupu stated in the talk show “Fabrica” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“It is for the first time that Parliament seeks directly the pullout of the Russian troops. Earlier, there were made only some isolated statements, even if our diplomatic service worked in this regard and the problem was addressed at different international forums. For us, it is very important to make it clear to the whole society and to our foreign partners, both from the East and from the West, that these are the pivotal lines of our policy on which all our future actions will be based,” stated the Democratic heavyweight.
Marian Lupu noted that the Parliament’s statement confirms once again the government’s position on the neutrality status of the Republic of Moldova. “The country’s neutrality is a constant and serious position of the government. The neutrality status of the Republic of Moldova does not allow Russian troops to illegally stay on the territory of the Transnistrian region,” he said.
He also said he is waiting impatiently for the Constitutional Court’s decision on the Liberal Party’s challenge. “My colleagues questioned the country’s neutrality stipulated in the Constitution. It’s good that the decision of the high court is in the spirit of the Constitution. By the Parliament’s statement, the government underlined the desideratum to transform the peacekeeping mission into a mission of civilian observers under international mandate,” stated Marian Lupu.
Referring to President Igor Dodon’s position on the issue, including as regards the federalization of the Republic of Moldova, Marian Lupu said he has known Dodon for many years and considers that these are not his ideas.
