The vice president of Socialist International Marian Lupu took part in the annual meeting of the heads of state and government that belong to the Social-Democratic family that was held in New York. The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) spoke about the European aspirations of Moldova and asked the international partners to offer more support to Moldova, IPN reports.
The meeting of the Presidium of Socialist International, held at the UN headquarters, focused on current problems from the international agenda. In New York, Marian Lupu discussed with a number of Social-Democratic colleagues from Europe. “I think the PDM and Moldova must take part in political debates on topical global issues such as poverty and social inequality, peace and security in the world, development of global economy. Starting from here, we can better draw attention to the problems faced in our country. I will use all the occasions and all the means to promote the interests of the people of my country anywhere in the world. The Republic of Moldova has powerful friends and, if we strengthen ties with them, our country will be more powerful too,” stated the leader of the PDM.
In New York, Marian Lupu received confirmation of the fact that the European Social-Democrats will support the Republic of Moldova on the path of European integration. This means that the country will get assistance for modernizing its institutions and European funds for development.
The leaders of Socialist International also spoke about the presidential elections that will take place in Moldova on October 30, reiterating their support for Marian Lupu’s candidacy for the office of President of Moldova. “Marian Lupu is the most indicated politician for assuming responsibility as President of Moldova. I approve of his ability to listen to the people and not to take impulsive decisions. He is a person in whom the Moldovans can have confidence,” said the leader of the SI Women’s Organization Ouafa Hajji.
SI secretary general Luis Ayala said Marian Lupu is a respected colleague. “I’m very glad to see him full of enthusiasm. I wish him success in elections and hope to see again my friend as President of the Republic of Moldova the next time we meet,” stated Luis Ayala.
President of Socialist International George Papandreou noted that the leader of the PDM is a person who struggles for a democratic and transparent society. “I respect a lot his qualities and aspirations. Evidently, the Moldovan citizens are those who will decide, but he can be sure of my vote,” stated George Papandreou.
While in New York, Marian Lupu met with the ex-Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, Social-Democrat Eero Heinäluoma. The Finish politician said that Moldova needs powerful leaders able to continue the reforms and offer stability to the people.
