The chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu described the discussion he had with the Lib-Dems as a positive and constructive one even if the PLDM is yet to adopt a final decision as to its MPs’ vote for the new Government. The meeting took place in the afternoon of January 12, IPN reports.
“We have a formalized parliamentary majority consisting of 56 MPs following the statement presented to the head of state. We transmitted a positive message for extending this majority, if the PLDM decides to join in. We didn’t carry out negotiations on posts and areas of political responsibility. We agreed to start these talks after the head of state signs the decree to nominate the candidate for premiership,” said Marian Lupu.
He noted that the negotiations can last for several weeks, but now it is only one day left until the January 14 deadline by which the President must sign the mentioned decree.
“The negotiations cannot last for a day. If we start them today, there is a risk that they will not be ended by January 14. We agreed with those from the PLDM that they will have discussions inside their parliamentary group and will take a decision by tomorrow morning. If the decision is positive, those who didn’t sign the statement should sign it and the head of state can sign the decree. We will open talks to think up the government program and to agree the composition of the Cabinet,” stated Marian Lupu.
The Democratic Party will convoke its Political Bureau on January 13 to decide who will be proposed for the post of Prime Minister.
