Marian Lupu: PDM will support PLDM’s candidate for PM

The Democratic Party (PDM) will support candidate for premiership Chiril Gaburici, who was put forward by the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Democratic leader Marian Lupu told the reporters after the February 14 meeting with President Nicolae Timofti. Marian Lupu said he asked the head of state to issue a decree to nominate this candidate as soon as possible, IPN reports.

“In the discussions with the President, I made reference to the political agreement (with the PLDM, e.n.), which continues to be valid and by which we pledged to support each other,” stated Marian Lupu.

As regards Chiril Gaburici, Marian Lupu said that given his training, his knowledge of the Moldovan economy and his experience of manager abroad, he can cope with the position of Prime Minister. He underlined they will agree to make changes in the ministerial portfolios, if relevant proposals are made.

As to the Liberal Party, Marian Lupu said he received no invitation from this party and noted that he was surprised by the Liberal faction’s decision not to vote for the Cabinet proposed by Iurie Leanca. “They would have become national heroes if they had voted. They would have determined the re-formation of the government coalition. They didn’t do it. Probably they were advised to do so,” he stated.

The government program and the Cabinet proposed by Iurie Leanca didn’t garner the number of votes of MPs needed to be confirmed.
