Marian Lupu: PDM must become most powerful center-left party

The Democratic Party (PDM) must become the most powerful center-left party. Social democracy is the only political doctrine that focuses on the people’s welfare. It can make the people feel free and not constrained by poverty, the party’s chairman Marian Lupu said in the seventh congress of the PDM, Info-Prim Neo reports. “All those who will look at Moldova must say that it is a powerful, united, social-democratic state. We know that there is yet a lot of work to be done, but we have the necessary forces to succeed. Social democracy becomes an incontestable force in Europe,” Marian Lupu said before the almost 1,200 delegates taking part in the congress. He said that the left segment of the Moldovan political sphere turned out to be fragmented and it is the PDM’s duty to reunify it. According to him, the right forces are too radicalized and intend to transform Moldova into a suburb. Marian Lupu spoke about the accomplishments made by the PDM since the last congress held in 2009, saying that it was a period of hard work, but the party has constantly developed. “The results achieved at the local elections in 2011 are twice better than in 2007. We have three times more mayors and two times more councilors. Each fourth councilor represents the PDM,” he stated. He also said that the party initiated and implemented a series of projects to train the members of the PDM and promote the democratic principles in society. In the June 16 congress, there will be presented the strategy for reforming the party that was worked out by the party’s deputy chairman Vlad Plahotniuc and elected the new administration of the PDM.
