The chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said that Moldova’s agriculture goes through a period of challenges following the import restrictions imposed by Russia. On his facebook page, the politician informs that the MPs during the first days of September will debate the issue in Parliament and will review the allocations provided from the state budget, IPN reports.
“Surely, nobody is happy when they cannot sell their products and when a traditional foreign market suddenly becomes inaccessible. It’s a hard moment, similar to others witnessed by our agriculture. But namely in such moments we need solidarity, not hatred, and concrete solutions, not politically speculated protests. I, as most of the Moldovans, believe that the place of tractors is in the fields, not on roads. Those who bring confrontation, provide no solutions. They only worsen the state of affairs,” wrote Marian Lupu.
He called on the farmers to trust the Government and to have a constant dialogue with it and the Ministry of Agriculture so as to find appropriate solutions. “The Moldovans must be united before the problems as union builds power. The measures to compensate the farmers for their losses, announced by the Government, are a first solution to agricultural producers’ problems. We anticipated such a scenario and launched negotiations with the development partners so as to help them overcome the problems,” said the Democratic leader.
Marian Lupu is sure that these problems will be solved soon. “We count on the support of the development partners, but we can also identify internal resources. The authorities will be open for dialogue and support. Agriculture remains an important area and plays an important social role. There is not room for speculation in such a situation,” he stated.
He added that the proposals to denounce the Association Agreement with the EU will not be discussed. He made a call for dialogue and for a pragmatic, mature and constructive approach to the situation.
