Marian Lupu – only candidate registered for presidency
The leader of the Democratic Party Moldova Marian Lupu, who was fielded by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) for the post of head of state, is the only candidate registered for the presidency. The vote to elect the President of Moldova will take place on November 10. By 00.00 on November 6, three days before the voting procedure in the Parliament, the special commission for the election of the head of state registered only Marian Lupu as a candidate, the commission’s head Ion Plesca has told Info-Prim Neo.
Thus, a single candidate will run in the November 10 election, and there will be no alternative candidate. Such a possibility appeared after the law on the procedure for the election of the President of Moldova was amended.
Initially, the vote to elect the head of state was to be held on October 23. But the Parliament cancelled this date and set a new date, November 10, in order to remove the shortcomings existing in the legislation.
Under the legislation, the head of state is elected by the vote of 3/5 of the 101 MPs. Marian Lupu needs eight more votes to be elected as the AEI holds only 53 seats.
