The chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Mariana Lupu met with the leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM). Igor Dodon at the head office of the Socialists. The two parties have dissenting positions – the PDM wants a new Government to be formed, while the PSRM continues to seek early parliamentary elections, IPN reports.
Marian Lupu said the parties remain on their positions, which are diametrically opposed. “Mister Dodon said the Socialists want early elections. I stated the PDM’s position that this is a last test for the political class to show maturity and that we must form a parliamentary majority and vote in the Government that would do its job. If the parliamentary parties do not show maturity, we will allow the people to decide at early elections,” he stated.
The Democrats are also waiting for an answer from the Party of Communists. “Those from the Liberal Democratic Party said they will not take part in the discussions and are waiting. We are flexible and are ready to work to form an alliance and then a Government. The colleagues from the PLDM are for politically unaffiliated Premier and ministers and we said that we are ready to discuss,” stated Marian Lupu, noting that from legal viewpoint, the politicians have at most two months to take a decision, but a Government should be voted in as soon as possible so as to protect the people’s interests.
For his part, Igor Dodon said the position of the Socialists remained unchanged. “We must take into account the opinion of most of the people, who want early parliamentary elections to be held. We are ready to discuss with all the parliamentary groups even if we do not agree with the policies pursued by this, but we respect their voters. But we are ready to have discussions based on our proposals. We want a common vote to amend the Constitution so that the population is able to choose their President. We want early legislative elections to be held next March based on the non-voting in of the Government and compensations to be paid to the people to offset the higher gas and electricity tariffs,” he stated.
The Socialists’ leader said they seek the dismissal of all the managers of the institutions involved in the theft of billions of lei from the baking system, feeing of the captive state, conviction by a common act of the previous governments dismissed for acts of corruption, strengthening of the country’s neutrality status by an act and conviction of the unionist actions. The Socialists even registered a bill to liquidate the political or apolitical organizations that plead for the liquidation of the Moldovan state.
