Marian Lupu: I plan to meet with Vladimir Voronin by this weekend

The Alliance for European Integration's presidential candidate Marian Lupu, who is the leader of the Democratic Party, plans to have a meeting with the president of the Communists Party Vladimir Voronin by the end of this week. Lupu made the announcement at a news conference on December 2. The second round of presidential elections will take place on December 7, Info-Prim Neo reports. Speaking about the creation of the constitutional reform commission, Marian Lupu confirmed his position declared earlier. “I did not change my position. The Constitution will be modified if the head of state is not elected so as to make sure that the situation will not repeat after the early parliamentary elections. At the second stage, there will be formulated all the constitutional mechanisms, but this is a long-term process that can last for several years.” As to the recent visit that he made to Brussels on the invitation of the European Parliament, Lupu said that all his interlocutors expressed interest and promised assistance in bringing the situation in Moldova to normality, in solving the political crisis. According to him, the EU has great expectations of Moldova. “The Brussels officials assured me of their support as they understand that Moldova's aspirations to become part of the EU are not only political statements, but hard work to adjust the legislation and implement European reforms,” Lupu said. He also said that now that the official Chisinau was authorized to open talks on the new agreement with the EU, Moldova must obtain authorization for negotiating the Free Trade Agreement, as the officials in Brussels stressed.
