Marian Lupu goes to Crimea to celebrate President Victor Yanukovich’s birthday
The Moldovan interim President, Marian Lupu, will go to Crimea, on Sunday, July 9, to celebrate the birthday of Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich. Lupu has an official meeting scheduled as well. He and his Ukrainian counterpart will discuss issues regarding the bilateral relationship, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I’m going there to discuss two issues. First, the €1,200 amount that Moldovans have to prove when crossing the Ukrainian border. I will ask this decision of the Government to be annulled. I will also discuss about the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation. It’s not normal that the commission hasn’t met for five years”, Lupu told the press before his departure.
According to the interim President, there are many subjects that should have been discussed within intergovernmental commissions, such as economic and energy issues or the border fixing, but the talks have never started.
Lupu added that no documents would be signed during his visit.
Marian Lupu said that his present for Victor Yanukovich would be a book. “I don’t think the Ukrainian President lacks anything. My protocol service consulted with the Kiev presidential protocol and they were told the present should be something simple, but sincere. So, I thought of a book, because a book is always good for anyone in any circumstances”, said Lupu.
He was invited by Yanukovich in May, when they met at the Central Europe Heads of State Summit.
