The United Moldova Party demanded dismissing Mihai Ghimpu. Before today's sitting of the Parliament, a group of supporters of the party headed by MPs Victor Stepaniuc and Vladimir Turcan protested in front of the Palace of the Republic. They were carrying placards and chanting such slogans as “Down with Ghimpu” and “Down with Unionism”, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Turcan said he will ask that the dismissal of Mihai Ghimpu be included in the sitting's agenda, arguing the Head of Parliament does not want early elections and endangers Moldova's relations with Russia. “Yesterday, we demanded that the bill on the constitutional referendum come into force after the decree to dissolve the Parliament is issued. But our demand wasn't taken into account,” Vladimir Turcan said. The Democrat leader Marian Lupu told the reporters he was sick and tired of the unreasonable actions of those from the extreme right and extreme left. “Let's do a simple calculation. 67 votes are needed to discharge Mister Ghimpu. The Communists Party and the United Moldova Party have 46 votes together. Even if the Democratic Party gives its votes, there is not enough votes to dismiss him. Another thing is more important. We 70% depend on foreign financing. Imagine that the Parliament and the Government become nonfunctional. What will happen then?” Marian Lupu asked. “I'm not afraid of early elections. Mister Stepaniuc and Mister Turcan are afraid because they know they do not have chances to enter the Parliament. I repeatedly said that early elections will be held in autumn,” said Speaker and Acting President Mihai Ghimpu. As their proposal was rejected, the MPs of the United Moldova Party left the assembly hall.
