The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Marian Lupu in 2016 will hold the post of co-president of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Bureau of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly on February 18, IPN reports, quoting the PDM.
Marian Lupu said he is honored to represent Moldova at such a high level in the European bodies and proposed creating a platform for cooperation with the countries that signed Association Agreements with the EU within Euronest. His proposal was accepted by the Bureau’s members, who agreed that the first meeting of the delegations of the signatory countries – Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia – will be held in the first quarter of this year.
It was also decided to extend the composition of the Bureau by including representatives from all the political groups of the European Parliament, respectively members of the bilateral parliamentary cooperation bodies.
During his visit to Euronest, the leader of the PDM had bilateral meetings and discussions with the Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Heidi Hautala, ALDE Vice President Petras Austrevicius, who is the EP Rapporteur for Moldova, and Head of Division for bilateral relations with the Eastern Partnership countries in the European External Action Service Dirk Schuebel. The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the situation in Moldova, the existing problems and ways of solving them and discussed instruments for strengthening the relations between Moldova and the EU.
The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is the interparliamentary forum in which members of the European Parliament and the national parliaments of Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia participate. It was established as a component of the Eastern Partnership to support the rapprochement between the EU and the countries of Eastern Europe, including by encouraging their political, economic and social reform efforts.
