“Maria Biesu Invites” marks 20 years of launch

The festival of opera and ballet stars “Maria Biesu” invites is celebrating 20 years of the launch. Eleven international soloists will perform in this year's festival. The Academy of Sciences of Moldova will present a monograph about the Prima Donna, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This festival marks our independence and sovereignty. It is an event that represents us as a country with European aspirations. The greatest international opera and ballet stars have been invited to the festival this year,” the head of the National Opera Theater Valeria Sheican told a news conference. Deputy Minister of Culture Gheorghe Postica said this festival is a holiday of the classical culture, music and talent. “The fact that this great holiday appeared in the national renaissance period is significant. The festival preceded the sovereignty and independence of the country,” he said. The 18th festival is dedicated to the 75th birthday of the Prima Dona Maria Biesu. The festival “Maria Biesu Invites” will take place at the National Opera House, the National Palace and the Organ Hall between September 10 – 17. Famous soloists from Spain, Switzerland, France, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova will be taking part in the festival. Romanian tenor Hector Lopez said he came to Moldova for the first time. “It is a special pleasure to take part in this festival, alongside professional people of culture and a troupe with beautiful voices,” he said. Emmanuel Siffert from Switzerland said he has high esteem for Maria Biesu as she has a splendid voice. The festival includes nine concerts. The last will be a charity one and will be given at the Organ Hall on September 12.
