March in memory of World War II heroes

Members and sympathizers of the Party of Communists and World War II veterans on May 5 took part in a march dedicated to the soldiers killed in battle. With flags and photos of killed relatives in their hands, the marchers went from the Gaudeamus Movie Theater up to the memorial complex “Eternity”, where they laid flowers and gave speeches, IPN reports.

The Communists’ leader Vladimir Voronin said that today’s event is staged before May 9, when it is celebrated Victory Day. A similar march will be staged on May 9. Such events are important because they represent the continuity of memory. The period of World War II was a hard one and many people died during it.

Asked by the journalists about the U.S. soldiers who came to Moldova to take part in military exercises and in an exhibition that will be mounted in central Chisinau on May 9, the Communist leader said that these should come to the memorial complex “Eternity” on May 9 to lay flowers alongside them. He noted that the USSR, together with the Americans and English people, emerged victorious in this war.

On the other hand, some of the participants in the event said they are against the presence of U.S. troops in Moldova, noting it is unacceptable for U.S. military vehicles to be placed in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on May 9.

The Party of Communists announced that they will mount a march dedicated to Victory Day on May 9 too. This year the march will not set off from the central square of Chisinau, as the previous years, because it is a too long distance for the veterans. These will gather in front of the Gaudeamus Movie Theater, as today, and will then go to the memorial complex “Eternity”.
