March dedicated to Victory Day staged in central Chisinau

Supporters and members of the Party of Socialists marked Victory Day with a traditional May 9 event called the “Immortal Regiment”. The column of people marched from the Great National Assembly Square and went to “Eternity” Memorial Complex. The participants brought portraits of heroic soldiers and held in their hands the flags of the Republic of Moldova and Victory flags, IPN reports.

“For us, Victory Day is a big holiday. Every family was affected by that terrible war. Hundreds of thousands of Moldovans participated in the Great Patriotic War as part of the Red Army. About half a million civilians died. We cannot forget this. We cannot allow the distortion of the historical truth. We will not allow the heroic deeds of our fathers and grandfathers to be forgotten,” said the chairman of the PSRM Igor Dodon.

People laid flowers at the Eternal Flame at “Eternity” Memorial Complex, thus honoring the memory of the heroes fallen in the Great Patriotic War, those who fought for victory and who contributed to achieving it by working behind the front, the Party of Socialists said in a press release.

The event was also joined by representatives of the opposition political bloc “Victory”, which was created in Moscow. Demonstrators carried flags and placards and chanted “Victory” along the way. “On Victory Day, we had the opportunity to walk with other fellows in the column, from the center of Chisinau to “Eternity” Memorial, where we laid flowers and observed a minute of silence as a sign of deep respect and admiration for the heroic deed of our ancestors,” reads a post by the Chance Party that is part of the bloc.

The March of Victory and of the “Immortal Regiment” was organized by the National Coordination Committee “Victory”.
