The mayor of Parcova village of Edinet district is the new head of the Association of Local Elected Officials of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM). This was chosen in the forum of the party’s local elected officials that was held on July 14 and 15, IPN reports.

The meeting also elected two deputy heads - Elena Chircu, local councilor of Lozova village of Straseni district, and Gheorghe Raileanu, mayor of Cimislia.

“Our mission is to restore the people’s confidence and hope. We should mobilize, recharge our batteries and reconnect ourselves to the people and their needs,” said the leader of the PLDM Viorel Cibotaru.

“You are those who showed that if you fight, you can lose, but if you don’t fight, you already lost. The success in the future depends on your activism and performance in communities. It is our duty to show that politics in the interests of the ordinary people is possible,” stated the deputy chairman of the PLDM Tudor Deliu.

In the forum, the local elected officials discussed the problems faced in their work, noting the lack of transparency in the decision-making process, defective management of public funds, distribution of financial resources according to political and clientele criteria.

The local elected officials of the PLDM adopted a statement saying that in the absence of clear strategies for developing communities and of European reform conditions, the central authorities focus on a false political agenda, shifting emphases from the real needs of the population to sterile debates and confrontations on topics centering on the electoral legislation. They call on the European political forces, civil society and local elected officials to unite and not to allow the communities to be transformed into servants of the government.
