One of the most active representatives of civil society, the head of the Association “Pro Chisinau” Marcel Darie, decided to run for the post of mayor of Chisinau municipality. It is expected that the local elections will take place this spring or summer.

In an interview for the paper “Ziarul National”, which is quoted by IPN, Marcel Darie says that Chisinau has faced a real crisis over the last few years.

“Officially alone, the mayor was absent from work for 83 days. However, nobody checks him in this respect and, as many employees say, he practically cannot be found at work. We can thus assume that more than half of the time he is absent from the City Hall. Now the residents of Chisinau wonder if we need a politician or a competent manager at the City Hall. We entrusted the capital city to a man who was unable to create at least one workplace. We now feel the result practically in every area,” stated Marcel Darie.    

According to him, we have lately witnessed an unprecedented polarization of society according to geopolitical criteria.

“This fact cased significant damage in 2011 too, when a populist and demagogue politician was elected as mayor. He used certain our values and political slogans to hide the thefts and the complete incompetence. I think the only solution to save Chisinau from disaster and interminable political struggles is to elect a politically unaffiliated person, a competent manager with administrative and political will as mayor of Chisinau,” said Darie.

The activist considers that the platform of the NGO “Pro Chisinau”, from which he will start his campaign, is appropriate for satisfying the wishes of the residents of Chisinau.

“I’m convinced that the inhabitants of Chisinau want competent administration that would ensure decisional transparency and a powerful and responsible leader in Chisinau. We are looking for a solution that would allow us to take part in the elections with a powerful team consisting of different experts representing civil society. The advantages of such a team include the experience, competence and integrity. I’m sure that civil society this time will have a say and the inhabitants of Chisinau will choose a competent and responsible mayor of whom they will be proud in the future,” stated Marcel Darie.
