Activist Marcel Darie, who heads the Association “Pro Chisinau”, is a world powerlifting champion and a master of sport, has officially entered the race for the mayoralty of Chisinau. The candidate was put forward by the Law and Justice Party, IPN reports.

In the event to enter the electoral race, Marcel Darie’s pupil Vladimir Butucea mounted the 200 stairs in the Chisinau Park “Valea Morilor” with a weight of 100 kg on the back in sign of support for the candidate.

Marcel Darie said it is important that the future mayor should take care of Chisinau and its residents and should not become involved in politics. He noted that he is categorically against the use of force in state institutions. “What happened at the Chisinau City Hall the previous days is inadmissible. I will bring things in order at local level, but not by using physical force, but by my authority and professionalism,” he stated.

The local general elections will take place on June 14.
