The Athletics Federation of Moldova earned qualification in marathon for the Olympic Games of next summer. Lilia Fisikovich came second in the Marathon of Warsaw with the result of 2.35.12 and thus qualified for the Rio Olympics, IPN reports.
The result achieved in Poland is a personal accomplishment for the athlete from Tiraspol. She is now the third athlete who qualified for the Olympic Games, after Zalina Marghieva (hammer throw) and Roman Prodius (marathon).
Of the 1,015 women runners who took part in the prestigious marathon in Warsaw, five more qualified for the Rio Olympics. These are from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Poland.
