The club of cultural debates conducted by the “Stare de urgenta” magazine (State of Emergency) and the Moldovan Writers Union has resumed in Chisinau. At their first session, they discussed a book, which, the author says, several publishers were afraid to print. “Manipulation in Post-Totalitarianism” by Mihai Sleahtitchi is about the manipulation phenomena in Moldova and Romania. “It's a book bringing to the daylight a topic of maximum interest, not talked about till now. The book tries to consider the manipulation from as many as possible viewpoints,” the playwright Dumitru Crudu, the club's chairman, has told Info-Prim Neo. 20 authors from 4 countries have worked together to make the book's 5 sections, Mihai Sleahtitchi said. “As a rule, the manipulation is talked about in an abstract manner, with historical characters. We decided to speak about today's politicians. That is why its an uncomfortable book for Moldova's rulers and leaders of other countries. We give concrete names to prove that that man is not a persuasive leader, who can lead by the power of the argument, but he is rather the manipulating guy, who chooses the rumor, the lie, the statistical intoxication,” the author says. The book writes about what actually happened and puts up different interpretations, Mihai Sleahtitchi says. The book can be found in Romania only, so far, and soon will be available in Moldova. The “Stare de urgenta” cultural debates will go on by presenting other books, the organizers promise.
