The architectural complex “Mandic Vila with Park” in Drochia district will be restored under a Moldovan Polish partnership, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc announced in a news conference, quoted by IPN.
The minister said the first steps in this direction were already taken. Two missions of Polish experts visited the complex and did field research. This summer, the researches, dendrological works and the ecological examination will be continued. A group of Polish students of the Warsaw Faculty of Architecture will be involved in the renovation of the Mandic Villa. This will also help ensure experience exchange between students of the two states.
“We want the village to become a public place intended mainly for young people. The students will be able not only to rest there, but also to work to restore this part of Moldova’s heritage,” said the minister.
Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Monika Smoleń said the Polish authorities are glad that Moldova applied to the program “Creative Europe” through which the country will be able to access European funds for restoring the heritage. “We want to make a series of visits so as to teach people of culture and of arts how to access European funds,” she stated, adding that these meetings will take place in Chisinau and in other parts of Moldova.
“I want the Polish culture to be more present in Moldova and vice versa, the Moldovan culture to be more present in Poland.”
The architectural complex “Mandic Vila with Park” belonged to the family of Polish nobles Ohanowicz. The mansion was decorated with elements typical of the traditional Polish architecture, while the park was similar to the classical gardens of Rome. In time, the mansion had been used for other needs, ignoring the fact that it is a monument of history and landscape architecture.
