The mandate of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) will be extended for another two years. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration was delegated by the Government to ensure the exchange of notes in this regard with the partners, IPN reports.
The memorandum of understanding concerning the EUBAM between the Government of Moldova, the European Commission and the Government of Ukraine was signed in Palanca on October 7, 2005. The mission was to last for 24 months, but could be extended through an exchange of notes between the sides. Afterward, the mandate was extended three times, in 2007, 2009 and 2011. The current mandate of the EUBAM expires on November 30, 2015.
“The extension of the Mission’s mandate will have a positive effect on the integrated state border management process, especially in the context of the fulfillment of the commitments assumed by Moldova within the Association Agreement with the EU and the meeting of the requirements needed to institute the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Moldova and the EU,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman.
