The manager of the children’s center “Casa Gavroche” of Chisinau was fired, while the personnel were warned after a number of videos showing a child of the placement center being physically and verbally abused by one of the educators had been circulated. The decision was made public by the acting head of the Child Protection Division Valentina Volontir in the August 11 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, IPN reports.

Valentina Volontir said the educator was reprimanded together with another two employees of the center. The personnel were warned about the risks of such situations. A specialist assessed the psychological climate at the center.

At the previous meeting of the Municipal Council, PAS councilor Angela Munteanu Pojoga notified the municipal Child Protection Division of this case and asked for an internal inquiry into the given case. The video recording system didn’t work when the child was abused and the center’s manager argued that there was no electrical power.

The PAS councilor also warned about the problem of use of violence against children of the Rehabilitation Center and asked that the Division should provide a report on the actions taken in this situation.
