The de facto manager of Caravita SRL and Business Estate Investments SRL Ion Rusu was sentenced to five years in jail for money laundering that caused serious damage to Banca de Economii. The sentence was passed by the Buiucani Court of Chisinau not long ago, IPN reports.

The Court also found guilty the legal entities Caravita SRL and Business Estate Investments SRL of money laundering, fining them 150,000 lei each and ordering their liquidation.

By the same sentence, the Court accepted Banca de Economii’s request to levy €2 793 229 from Ion Rusu and the two companies for the benefit of BC Banca de Economii.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court within 15 days.
