A 34-year-old man was injured last night by a car while he was walking with the child in his arms on the side of the road, in Orhei district. The man died on the spot, while his one-year-old daughter was taken to the district hospital, from where she was transported by the Aviasan service to the capital city.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, the accident occurred at around 10:00 p.m., on the R6 Chisinau-Orhei-Balti road, on an unlit section. The car that hit the man with the child in his arms was driven by a 20-year-old man. Being tested with the Dräger device, it was found that the driver wasn’t inebriated.

The man died on the spot due to the suffered injuries, while the child was rushed to the hospital. Contacted by IPN for details, the deputy medical director of the Orhei District Hospital Pavel Cristalov said that the girl was transported last night to the Mother and Child Institute.

“The child is in a serious condition as she suffered several traumas. She is under medical supervision in the Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit,” the Mother and Child Institute’s spokesman Maxim Cazacu has told IPN.

According to the police, a criminal case was initiated on this case to establish all the circumstances.
