The man caught in October with €550,000 at the Sculeni customs post will appear before judges. The money he hid remains seized, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the man was driving a luxury car and told customs inspectors that he didn’t have anything to declare. However, employees of the border crossing point checked his car and found a suitcase with money in the trunk. There were clothes in one of the compartments of the suitcase, while the €550,000 he intended to smuggle into Moldova was hidden under the protective cloth.

The man faces four to ten years’ imprisonment. The money can be confiscated for the benefit of the state.
