Man who took his children hostage arrested, Update

The man who took his children hostage and threatened his ex-wife that he would kill them if she does not return to him was arrested. It happened in the house of a woman in Mereni village. Press officer of the General Police Inspectorate Diana Fetco has told IPN that the children are safe and are being counseled by psychologists.

Minister of the Interior Pavel Voicu and the administration of the General Police Inspectorate travelled to the scene. Officers of the Special Police Brigade “Fulger” were also on the spot.

Being under the influence of alcohol, the man came to the home of a relative of his and, behaving aggressively towards the family members, threatened his former wife that he would kill their minor children if she does not return to him. Sources in the Anenii Noi Police Inspectorate have told IPN that the man had been earlier tried.

Update /9:58am/ Contacted by IPN for details, the mayor of Mereni Valentin Vieru said the family moved to the village recently. The man is 24, while his wife is only 20 and they have three children. The family is socially deprived and is under the supervision of the local authorities and the police. The young man is aggressive and often used violence against his wife. Therefore, the woman moved to live with a relative. Recently, the man was arrested for cruelly beating his wife.
