The man who last year on New Year’s Eve intentionally struck the car on which there were his ex-wife and their minor child was sentenced to 15 years and 60 days in jail, which is the maximum penalty for such an offence, IPN reports, with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The prosecutors proved the man’s guilt on two counts: “murder attempt” and “driving while heavily inebriated”.
The man was also banned from driving and was obliged to pay 1.7 million lei damages to the injured parties and 10,000 lei court costs.
The case happened in the evening of December 31, 2019. After learning that his former wife and their child, together with a relative, set off for Chisinau, where they were to celebrate New Year’s Eve, the man, being heavily inebriated, drove after them and, catching up with their car, struck this. The second car skidded off the road and ended up in a ditch. The victims suffered serious injuries. The woman aged 35 is now confined to a wheelchair.
