The Cahul Appeals Court gave 30 years in jail to a man from Cahul who shot dead his ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law, up from 16 years given to him earlier by the ordinary court, IPN reports.
On April 13, 2022, the Cahul Court found the man guilty of killing his ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law and sentenced him to 16 years behind bars. The Cahul Appeals Court reexamined the case at the request of the successor of the inured party and the prosecutors and passed a harsher judgment.
The culprit often got into conflicts with his former wife. After she went to live in her mother’s apartment in August 2021, he phoned her and threatened her with death, insisting that she should return to their common apartment. The crime was committed on November 27, 2021. The man was under the influence of alcohol when he entered the block where his ex-wife and her mother lived in the municipality of Cahul. When the women entered the building later, he shot at them from a hunter gun. The older woman perished on the spot, while the younger woman died later in the hospital.
The sentence is final but cannot be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice within 30 days.
