Man who killed stepdaughter after quarrel with wife gets 18 years

The man from Cantemir district, who last May killed his stepdaughter while discussing with his wife over Skype, was sentenced to 18 years in jail. The prosecution considers the punishment is too mild and intends to dispute it and to ask for a jail term of 30 years, IPN reports.

The crime was committed in Leca village. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man was discussing through Skype with his wife, who was in Italy. The two started to quarrel out of jealousy. The man threatened the woman he would kill her daughter if she didn’t return home. He then hit the seven-year-old child with an ax and a screwdriver. The girl died on the spot. The woman saw the terrible scene over the Internet.

Shortly after committing the crime, the 35-year-old man tried to kill himself, but was saved by doctors. Until the sentence was pronounced, he was under arrest.
