The man who this spring killed a female neighbor in Mereni village of Anenii Noi district was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. The sentence was passed by the Chisinau Appeals Court that accepted the prosecution’s appeal against the first court’s sentence by which the culprit got 15 years in jail for violent acts of a sexual character and murder, IPN reports.

The crime was committed in the house of the neighbor at the start of this May. The man and the woman drank alcoholic beverages together. After sexually abusing the victim, the man strangled her with an article of clothing. The 35-year-old man accepted his blame, saying he got angry because the woman aged 57 spread rumors about him through the village.

The decision is executory, but can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice.
