A 49-year-old woman was found unconscious in the village of Dezghingea in Gagauzia, with signs of violent death. Suspected of the murder is the woman's ex-husband, a 50-year-old man.

The press officer of the Comrat Police Inspectorate, Elena Casu, told IPN that the woman was discovered dead in the street on Sunday evening by a neighbor who alerted the law enforcement authorities.

She had several stab wounds on her back.

Police have detained the woman's ex-husband and more forensic tests will be ordered.

If found guilty, he faces 15 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
