A Turkey citizen was arrested at the Chisinau International Airport on suspicion of smuggling gold and silver items to the value of over 4 million lei, IPN reports.
The Customs Service said that the smuggling was committed in 2018-2019. At that time, the scheme was annihilated and two persons from the Republic of Moldova were apprehended and were later sentenced to three and four years in prison. The first person admitted his guilt. Gold and silver items worth over four million lei were confiscated.
At that stage, the organizer was put on the wanted list. The man, who is a native of Turkey, was not in Moldova at that time.
On January 21 this year, the 38-year-old man arrived at the Chisinau International Airport by a plane from Istanbul. He was detained by officers of the Anti-Fraud and Compliance Department of the Customs Service, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.
