The 22-year-old man who confessed to a brutal double murder in Soroca district was placed under a 30-day preventive arrest, as decided today by the district court. This was confirmed to IPN by a General Police Inspectorate spokesperson.

The burned bodies of a mother and a teenage daughter were found earlier this month in the woods near the village of Dumbraveni.

The suspect told the police that he picked up the women as they were hitch-hiking for a ride to Soroca city, and soon after a “fight broke out” among them. As the victims tried to escape, he chased them down, beat the mother into unconsciousness, raped the girl before running her over, and then set both ablaze while they were still alive.

The man also confessed to committing another murder when he was just 16 years old. This confession apparently solves the case of a girl that disappeared in 2012 in about the same area.
