A 57-year-old man was sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually abusing the child that his wife took under guardianship. It started when the girl was 14 years old and lasted throughout 2021-2023, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the defendant’s wife was the girl’s guardian. At the same time, the man also had obligations to care, protect and educate the minor, as a family member. It was established that during 2021-2023, the man forced the girl to have sex with him periodically, adopting an improper and illegal physical and verbal behavior towards her.

The psychological assessment of the girl revealed signs specific to child victims of sexual abuse, exposure to physical and emotional abuse, post-traumatic stress, generalized anxiety.

When he found out that the victim, together with his wife, had filed a complaint with the police, he asked them to withdraw their complaint and threatened them with death, noting that he would “cut them into pieces”.

The defendant pleaded not guilty. He is in pre-trial detention and will serve the 11 years in a semi-closed prison. The sentence can be appealed.
