The Chisinau/Buiucani Court sentenced a 23-year-old man to 8 years in a semi-closed prison facility, in absentia, for raping an underage young woman.

The court heard that in February 2020 the defendant had invited the victim for a walk in a park near a student campus, where he had forced himself on her.

The convicted man has been absconding from justice and his 8-year term will start the moment he is detained.

The court also ordered the defendant to pay the victim 50,000 lei in non-pecuniary damage.

The sentence is appealable within 15 days.
