The rescue service of Botanica district of Chisinau saved a 45-year-old man who fell under the thin ice of a lake located near Dacia Blvd. The rescuers were called by fishermen who noticed the man, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, several persons who were nearby tried to save the man, but failed. The rescuers took him out of the water at a distance of 70 meters from the bank. He was given medical care and is now out of danger.

The Service warns those who are fond of fishing on ice that this activity is not dangerous when the layer of ice is over 8cm thick. When the temperatures are high, the ice turns thin and staying on it is very dangerous.

Now there are about 15 degree Celsius outside and record daytime temperatures of 19 degrees Celsius were forecast for the coming days. On the weekend, the temperatures will go under 0 degrees Celsius.

Eight persons have been rescued from drowning so far this year.
