A 28-year-old man from Criuleni district got 25 years for murdering his mother. The judgment was passed by the Ciocana office of the Court of Chisinau. The man’s accomplice, who helped him get rid of the body, was sentenced to 15 years in jail, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, on the night of July 30, 2013, the son of the 55-year-old woman, together with a friend of his, being under the influence of alcohol strangled the woman as a result of a quarrel and then threw the body into the Nistru River, not far from Corjova village.

The culprits were arrested several years later, in April 2016. The victim’s son had earlier served 12 years in jail for murder. The prosecution demanded life for the man.

The sentence can be challenged in the Appeals Court.
