Man killed in fire caused by electric blanket
A 58-year-old man from Causeni town got poisoned with carbon monoxide fumes in his bed while sleeping after his electric blanket caught fire.
Dorina Cruc, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the tragedy happened in an apartment on Piatra Veche St in Causeni on Monday morning. The neighbors saw smoke coming our of the apartment and called the firefighters. The body of the man was found in the smoldering bed. Preliminary investigations showed the fire was caused by the electric blanket.
Ten persons were killed in the 61 fires that happened this year. A number of 2,259 fires were recorded in Moldova in 2009. They claimed 185 lives, including of six children.
