Man killed in fire caused by burning cigarette
A man died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a fire that was caused by a burning cigarette. Sergiu Chircu, of the Rescuers and Firefighters Division, has told Info-Prim Neo that the fire happened in a summer kitchen in Mandac village of Drochia district on the night of April 25.
The body of the man aged 56 was found in the smoldering mattress.
Another fire on the night of April 26 destroyed 12 square meters of roof and property in a cereal storehouse in Pocimbauti village of Rascani district.
The 659 fires that occurred in Moldova this year resulted in 89 deaths, including of a child. Eighty-eight fires were caused by burning cigarettes, while 198 by faulty stoves.
