Man killed in collision between car and train

An Opel Combo car crashed violently into a train traveling from Ceadar-Lunga town to Basarabeasca at a level crossing on July 29. The 61-year-old driver of the car died on the spot, IPN reports.

In a press release, the state-owned company “Moldova’s Railways” says the warning system at the grade crossing was functional. The driver of the motor vehicle broke the traffic rules as he ignored the red color of the stoplights, which warned that a train was approaching.

The administration of Moldova’s Railways calls on all the drivers to respect the road traffic regulations and to be prudent near railroads.
