Man killed by storm-downed power line
A 30-year-old man died after touching a storm-downed power line.
According to the PR Department of the Union Fenosa Moldova Company, the man received a fatal power shock while trying to deal with the consequences of the storm without the help of the specialised team and ignoring the safety rules.
The accident occurred in Carbuna village, Ialoveni district, on June 26. At 18.30, the storm downed a locust tree that fell on a 0.4 kV aerial power line, damaging several wires.
At that moment, the wires were not live, because the high tension alimentation station and its connexions, including the Rezeni station 35/10 kV that provides electricity for the Carbuna village were disconnected an hour before.
According to Union Fenosa, the neighbours gathered around the downed tree. One of them, Nicolaie Stoica, decided to remove the broken wires, taking one of them without protection and shrouding it around his elbow. Unfortunately, the network was reconnected, and the man who was standing on the wet soil, was electrocuted in front of his neighbours. One of them managed to pull off the wire from his hand with a wooded object. The local doctor gave him the first aid, and after 20 minutes the emergency team from the Rezeni hospital arrived.
Albeit all the doctors’ efforts the victim couldn’t be saved.
