The court sentenced a man who beat to death an 80-year-old woman, stole 25,000 lei from her house and set fire to it to life imprisonment, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Prosecutor General’s Office. The man had a criminal record. The last time he was condemned was in 2005. According to the prosecutors, while in Drochia town in January this year, he hit a woman with a crowbar in the head from behind. When the victim fell down, he stole her mobile phone and other goods. As he was not identified, the man dared to break into the house of an old woman that he knew was living alone. The woman died after he hit her with a stone several times. The court ordered that the convict return the stolen 25,000 lei to the woman’s successor and pay 100,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damage and 15,000 lei for the house destroyed in the fire.
