A man from Rezina district was sentenced for domestic violence that led to the death of his wife. He was given a one-year suspended sentence. The prosecutors intend to challenge the sentence as too mild, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man knew that his wife suffered from high blood pressure, but offended her and threatened her verbally, sending her insulting messages, including when she was receiving treatment at the hospital. He also pressed the victim into compiling a will on the pretext of avoiding possible civil lawsuits with relatives in case of her death due to her poor health. As a result, the woman’s state of health worsened and she died.
The man pleaded not guilty. The sentence is not final and can be challenged in a higher court within 15 days.
