Man gets 21 years for strangling his elderly mother
A man, 51, was sentenced to 21 years' imprisonment for strangling his elderly mother. The judgment was pronounced by the Cimislia District Court and may be appealed against in a higher court, the Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
According to the prosecutors, on the night from 27 to 28 November 2007, the man came home drunk and provoked a fight with his mother. Enraged, he inflicted numerous blows on the elderly woman and then strangled her.
The relationship of the convict with his mother were tense because of his drinking habits and his aggressiveness. Although the woman often reported the assaults to the police, she would later forgive his son because there was no one else to help her with the household, the prosecutors said.
